Mosey Masters Challenging Autosolo with Commanding Performance

David Mosey produced a masterclass in precision driving to claim overall victory at the weekend’s Autosolo event, steering his Vauxhall Corsa to a convincing win with a total time of 2,573 seconds across the 20-test course.

Mosey established his dominance early, setting the fastest time on the opening test with 113 seconds, immediately putting his rivals on notice. While Neil Raven’s Mazda MX5 initially looked threatening with a 114-second run, Mosey’s consistent pace throughout the day proved unbeatable.

Toyota driver Ali Procter emerged as Mosey’s closest challenger, finishing 63 seconds behind in second place overall and taking Class 2 honours. The battle for the final podium position was fiercely contested, with Neil Raven’s Mazda MX5 ultimately securing third by just 11 seconds from Simon Jennings in his Peugeot 106.

“I focused on clean, consistent runs rather than taking risks,” Mosey told our correspondent after his victory. “The Corsa handled brilliantly in these conditions, and I managed to build my lead steadily throughout the day.”

The turning point came during tests 17 and 18, when Mosey extended his advantage significantly. His blistering run in test 18 saw him gain a remarkable 95 seconds over Procter, effectively sealing his victory with two tests remaining.

Tom Hall put in an impressive performance in his classic Riley Elf to round out the top five, demonstrating that vintage machinery could still be competitive when driven with skill. His battle with David Leach’s Mazda MX5 for fifth place was one of the day’s highlights, with Hall ultimately prevailing by 26 seconds.

Class 1 proved to be Mosey’s playground, with the Vauxhall driver finishing a commanding 112 seconds ahead of Simon Jennings. Tom Hall completed the Class 1 podium, a further 17 seconds adrift.

The Class 2 contest was considerably tighter, with Ali Procter’s Toyota edging Neil Raven’s Mazda MX5 by just 11 seconds after a day-long duel. David Leach claimed third in class, 81 seconds behind Raven.

In Class 4, Luke Stewart’s Vauxhall Corsa dominated proceedings, finishing 467 seconds clear of Jayden Skeoch’s Ford Puma. Stewart’s consistent performance throughout the day never gave Skeoch a chance to challenge.

Philip Hodgson’s Mazda MX-5 deserves mention for a remarkable recovery drive. After a disappointing opening test left him seventh overall, Hodgson fought back with determination, though he couldn’t quite break into the top five by the finish.

The event saw a strong Mazda MX-5 contingent, with eight examples competing across various classes. Jake Sharp’s eighth-place finish made him the highest-placed of the remaining MX-5 drivers, following Raven and Leach home.

Conditions remained dry throughout, allowing competitors to push their cars to the limit on the technical course. The event’s organisation drew praise from participants, with the 20 tests providing a comprehensive examination of driving skill and car control.

As Mosey celebrated his well-deserved victory, competitors were already discussing strategies for the next event, where the Vauxhall driver will undoubtedly be the man to beat.
