Hansen Dominates in Toyota MR2 to Claim Commanding Victory

Mathias Hansen delivered a masterclass in precision driving to claim a convincing overall victory in his Toyota MR2 Roadster, finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of his closest rival.

Hansen established his dominance from the outset, setting the fastest time in the opening test with 127.0 seconds, and maintained his advantage throughout all four tests to finish with a cumulative time of 479.5 seconds.

Daniel Mead in his Skoda Fabia claimed second place with 488.1 seconds, narrowly edging out George Zippo’s VW Golf R Estate by just two-tenths of a second after an intense battle that raged throughout the day.

“I found a good rhythm early on and just tried to maintain clean runs,” said a delighted Hansen. “The MR2 was perfectly balanced today, which gave me the confidence to push harder through the tighter sections.”

The fight for the podium positions provided the day’s most compelling storyline. While Hansen established a comfortable lead, Mead and Zippo traded fractions of seconds across the tests. After the second test, Mead held just a four-tenth advantage over Zippo, with the gap remaining virtually unchanged through to the finish.

Lloyd Covey rounded out the top four in his Mini with a time of 493.4 seconds, also claiming Class C honours with a commanding performance that saw him finish more than 30 seconds ahead of his nearest class rival, Kornel Osiak in a Citroen C2.

In Class F, Hansen’s overall victory naturally secured him the class win, with John Massey’s Mazda MX5 taking second in class with 499.2 seconds, followed closely by Steve Rackley in another MX5.

The Class E battle saw Zippo’s Golf R Estate triumph over Robert Kiefer’s Toyota GR Yaris by nearly 18 seconds, while Daniel Mead’s second overall gave him a comfortable Class D win ahead of Anthony Newton’s BMW Compact.

One of the day’s closest contests came in Class G, where Dean Spurr edged Robert Kennedy by just four-tenths of a second, both driving Mazda MX5s, with Spurr’s time of 515.1 seconds just enough to claim victory.

Sam Williams provided a masterclass in classic car handling to take Class I honours in his Ford Escort with a time of 500.2 seconds, nearly eight seconds clear of Chris Penfold in another Escort.

The event saw several notable performances throughout the field. Cristian Muntean showed impressive pace in his Toyota MR2 to finish 14th overall, while Peter Rodhium’s Tiger R10 demonstrated flashes of brilliance but couldn’t maintain the consistency needed to challenge for top positions.

At the other end of the field, several competitors faced challenging days, with Jonathan Man’s BMW E30 and Luke Steggles’ Mazda MX5 both recording maximum times on multiple tests.

The day’s conditions remained consistent throughout, allowing for fair competition across all classes as drivers tackled the technical course that rewarded precision over raw power.

Hansen’s victory continues his impressive form this season, with the Toyota MR2 driver demonstrating why he’s considered one of the championship’s most technically accomplished competitors.
