Dolby Dominates Winter Series Round 2 with Masterful MX-5 Performance

Michael Dolby delivered a commanding performance to claim victory in the second round of the Winter Series Autosolo, finishing nearly 17 seconds ahead of his nearest rival with a combined time of 354.8 seconds across the two tests.

Dolby established his dominance early, setting the fastest time in the opening test with 211.5 seconds in his Mazda MX-5, before maintaining his advantage through the second test to secure a comprehensive win. Kevin Hardwick, also in a Mazda MX5, took second place overall with 371.7 seconds, while Mathias Hansen rounded out the podium positions in his Toyota MR2 Roadster with 360.2 seconds.

The battle for fourth place was particularly intense, with Steve Dolby’s Mazda MX-5 and Andy Lewin’s Toyota MR2 separated by just 3 seconds after both tests. Ultimately, it was Alister Hardwick who claimed fourth in his Mazda MX5 with 381.5 seconds, narrowly edging out Dave Atkinson’s Toyota Yaris GR Four by just one-tenth of a second.

In Class A, Roger Holder demonstrated exceptional car control to take the class win in his Vauxhall Adam with a time of 367.7 seconds, finishing a comfortable 10.3 seconds ahead of Oliver Michaels in a Toyota Aygo. Chris Bravington completed the class podium in his Ford Fiesta, just half a second behind Michaels.

Class B saw Alex Sharpe emerge victorious in his Seat Ibiza with 386.7 seconds, maintaining the lead he established in the first test. Charlie Atkinson put in a spirited drive in his Fiesta Zetec S to secure second place with 396.4 seconds, closely followed by Ben Heggs in another Ford Fiesta on 397.6 seconds.

The largest class of the day, Class C, was dominated by Michael Dolby, whose overall victory also secured him the class win. Mathias Hansen and Steve Dolby completed the class podium, with Andy Lewin just 2.7 seconds further back in fourth.

Class D provided some of the closest competition of the day, with Will Herbert’s Toyota Yaris taking the win with 375.4 seconds despite trailing Kevin Hardwick after the first test. Hardwick had to settle for second place in class with 371.7 seconds, while Kaelin Watson completed the podium places just 0.2 seconds behind Herbert.

The event showcased the competitive nature of grassroots motorsport, with several family duos sharing cars, including the Dolbys, Hardwicks, Atkinsons, Hodgkisses, Osbornes, Withingtons, and Eggers all featuring in the 54-strong entry list.
