Yapp Dominates WinterSeries Round 3 with Commanding Performance

Jamie Yapp delivered a masterclass in precision driving to claim victory in the third round of the WinterSeries Autosolo, powering his VW Golf R to an impressive winning time of 386.2 seconds across the two tests.

Yapp established his dominance early, setting the fastest time in the opening test with 194.0 seconds, before maintaining his advantage through the second test to secure a comprehensive win. His performance was particularly notable given the strong competition from Mathias Hansen in a Toyota MR2 Roadster, who finished second overall with 388.1 seconds.

The battle for the podium positions was fiercely contested, with Kevin Hardwick’s Mazda MX5 rounding out the top three with a time of 401.8 seconds. Andy Lewin in a Toyota MR2 and Jim Bryant in a Mazda MX5 completed the top five, both finishing within 12 seconds of Hardwick.

The Mazda MX5 proved to be the car of choice for many competitors, with no fewer than 16 examples taking part across the various classes. Toyota was also well represented with nine cars competing, highlighting the popularity of these nimble machines for autosolo competition.

In Class A, Maciej Czechowicz claimed victory in his diminutive Fiat 126, edging out Roger Holder’s Vauxhall Adam by just 0.4 seconds after both tests. Chris Bravington completed the class podium in his Ford Fiesta, finishing only 0.3 seconds behind Holder in what was one of the closest class battles of the day.

Daniel Pick emerged victorious in Class B, guiding his Toyota MR2 to a winning time of 417.3 seconds. John Pickavance’s Ford Escort pushed him close, finishing just 4.3 seconds behind, while Luke Simcock’s Suzuki Swift Sport completed the podium places.

Class C saw Mathias Hansen convert his strong overall performance into class victory with his Toyota MR2 Roadster. Andy Lewin made it a Toyota one-two in the class, with Jim Bryant’s Mazda MX5 completing the podium positions.

Jamie Yapp’s overall victory also secured him the Class D win, with Will Herbert’s Toyota Yaris and Kevin Hardwick’s Mazda MX5 completing the class podium. The Hardwick family showed impressive consistency with Alister and Katie joining Kevin in the top ten overall standings.

The event featured several shared cars, including the Hardwick family Mazda MX5, the Starmer family Mini Cooper S, and the Cox family Honda S2000, demonstrating the accessible and family-friendly nature of autosolo competition.

Some competitors faced challenges during the day, with James Mansell and Matt Lister in their Ford Escorts recording significantly slower times in the second test, suggesting they may have encountered issues or penalties.
