Lockwood Dominates in Masterclass Performance at Autosolo

Mason Lockwood delivered a commanding performance to claim overall victory at Sunday’s Autosolo event, guiding his Mazda MX5 to a winning time of 578.9 seconds across the 16-test course.

Lockwood established his dominance from the outset, setting the fastest time of 34.7 seconds on the opening test and never relinquishing his lead throughout the day. His consistent pace and precision driving saw him finish nearly 20 seconds ahead of nearest class rival Michael Armour in a Toyota MR2.

Alan Wakeman’s Nissan Micra claimed third overall with a time of 584.3 seconds after a day-long battle with Sam Carter’s MX5, which finished just 14 seconds further back in what proved to be a hotly contested event.

In Class A1, Robin Lines produced a masterful display in his classic Austin Mini to secure victory with 599.4 seconds, narrowly edging out Matt Endean’s MGZR by just 2.4 seconds after a thrilling contest that went down to the final test. The pair traded fastest times throughout the day, with Lines’ superior early runs ultimately proving decisive.

Vic Craven dominated Class A2 in his Renault Twingo RS133, finishing with 599.5 seconds despite pressure from Mark Snelling in an identical car. Rachael Candy put in a spirited performance in her MG ZR to complete the class podium.

The Class C battle saw Neil Peterson’s Westfield claim a comfortable victory over Nick Skuse’s Westfield SE, while Steven Groom took Class D honours in his Mini special despite some challenging runs in the later tests that saw his times slip.

Perhaps the most dramatic contest came in Class E, where Geraint Lloyd’s Austin Healey claimed victory despite a slow start. Lloyd recovered magnificently through the middle section of the event, while Alan Wakeman’s Nissan Micra impressed with consistently quick times that earned him second in class.

The day featured several notable performances, including Paul Webb’s sixth-place overall finish in his Mazda and Andrew Scarlett’s impressive showing in another MX5. Kielan Doo also demonstrated remarkable consistency in the later tests to climb into the top ten.

Conditions remained dry throughout, allowing competitors to push their cars to the limit across the technical course. The event showcased the accessibility of grassroots motorsport, with a diverse range of vehicles from classic Minis to modern sports cars competing across five classes.

As the final times were posted, it was Lockwood’s masterclass that stole the headlines – his performance underlining why he’s considered one of the country’s most accomplished Autosolo competitors.
