McWilliam Clinches Dramatic Victory in 63CC December Autotest

Ross McWilliam emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish at the 63CC December Autotest, edging out Bryan Morrison by just 2.3 seconds after a day of intense competition and shifting fortunes.

McWilliam, piloting his nimble Mini, established an early lead with a blistering opening test time of 35.2 seconds, six-tenths clear of Morrison in his Mazda X05. The Mini driver maintained his advantage through the second and third tests, building a slim but crucial buffer.

The battle for overall honours remained extraordinarily tight heading into the final stages. After the fifth test, Morrison had actually nosed ahead by 1.3 seconds, setting up a grandstand finish. However, McWilliam responded magnificently in the final test to overturn the deficit and secure the win with a total time of 264.5 seconds to Morrison’s 262.2.

In the fight for third, Alan Dalgarno (Ford) and Roy Anderson (Peugeot 17) engaged in their own close duel. Anderson’s consistent driving saw him claim fourth overall and victory in the Road Car class with 286.6 seconds, narrowly ahead of Cameron Beck’s Ford Fiesta in fifth.

The AutoForward PCA class provided its own drama as Alan Wallace maintained a slender advantage over Amie Wallace throughout all six tests. Alan’s final time of 308.7 seconds was enough to secure class victory by 4.9 seconds. Graham Rettie in his Mazda MX5 and Emma Findlay in a VW up! completed the class standings in third and fourth respectively.

In the AutoForward Autosolo category, McWilliam’s overall victory also secured him the class win, comfortably ahead of Cameron Beck’s Ford Fiesta. Kyle Powley took third in class in another Ford Fiesta, while Harris Milligan’s VW Golf GTD rounded out the field.

Bryan Morrison had the satisfaction of dominating the RWD or 4X4 Special class in his Mazda X05, while Roy Anderson’s fourth overall secured him the Road Car class victory. Alan Dalgarno was the sole competitor in Class F, bringing his Ford home in third overall.
