Towy Legends Targa Rally Sees Tight Competition in Welsh Countryside

The Towy Legends Targa Rally delivered a thrilling day of motorsport action as competitors navigated challenging test sections across the picturesque Welsh countryside.

Tom Weaver emerged as the overall victor, piloting his Mazda MX-5 to a commanding performance with a total time of 16:22. Weaver’s consistent pace throughout the day’s tests proved decisive, as he maintained his advantage despite strong challenges from the chasing pack.

Just 12 seconds behind, Richard Jermyn claimed second place in his Mazda MX-5, demonstrating the model’s suitability for the tight and technical nature of the rally. The podium was completed by Nigel Davies, who steered his Ford Puma to third with a time of 16:38, only four seconds adrift of Jermyn.

The battle for fourth position was particularly fierce, with Andrew Davies in his MG ZR edging out Huw Jones’s Mazda MX-5 by a mere three seconds. This highlighted the competitive nature of the event, where small margins made significant differences in the final standings.

Further down the order, the Mazda MX-5 continued to prove its popularity and effectiveness, with four examples finishing in the top ten. The Ford Puma also showed strong credentials with two cars placing in the top positions.

Car sharing was evident throughout the field, with the Williams family demonstrating particular success as both Gareth and Dylan Williams secured top-ten finishes in their shared Ford Puma.

The rally showcased a diverse range of machinery, from the nimble Mazda MX-5s and Ford Pumas to the robust Subaru Impreza and the classic Mini Cooper, illustrating the inclusive nature of Targa rallying that welcomes various vehicle types.
