Meeke Masters TDC Club Autotest with Commanding Performance

Richard Meeke delivered a masterclass in precision driving to claim a convincing victory at the TDC Club Autotest, finishing 11.6 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Driving his Toyota Starlet, Meeke established his dominance from the outset and maintained his advantage throughout all three tests to secure the overall win with a total time of 499.2 seconds.

John Nolan, also in a Toyota Starlet, secured second place with a time of 510.8 seconds, while Anthony Freeney rounded out the podium positions in his Westfield Seven, finishing in 517.7 seconds to claim both third overall and the Class A victory.

The battle for fourth place proved particularly intense, with just 1.7 seconds separating three competitors. Garrett Kennedy in his MG Midget ultimately prevailed with 532.6 seconds, narrowly edging out Liam Cashman’s Toyota Starlet by a mere two-tenths of a second. Brian Kingston in the Suzuki Ignis Sport completed this tightly contested trio, finishing just 0.4 seconds behind Cashman.

The Toyota Starlet emerged as the dominant vehicle of choice, with nine of the twenty competitors opting for the nimble Japanese hatchback. This popularity was reflected in the results, with Starlets claiming five of the top ten positions overall.

In Class A, Freeney established an early lead in his Westfield Seven and never relinquished it, finishing 16.6 seconds ahead of Michael Cullen’s Westfield Sports. The battle for third was closely fought between Damien Phillips in a Toyota Starlet and Rod McGovern in a Westfield Sport, with Phillips ultimately securing the position by just 1.6 seconds.

Class F saw Meeke establish his authority early, leading John Nolan by 4.2 seconds after the first test. He extended this advantage through the remaining tests to finish 11.6 seconds clear. The competition for third place in class was particularly fierce, with Kennedy, Cashman, and Kingston separated by less than a second at the conclusion of the event.

Further down the field, James Mansfield put in a respectable performance in the sole Mazda MX5, finishing ninth overall, while Piers MacFheorais represented Toyota’s mid-engined offering with his MR2, securing twelfth in class.

The event showcased the technical precision required in autotest competition, with consistency across all three tests proving crucial to overall success.
