Parry Edges Mathers in Thrilling Easter Egg Slalom
Shane Parry produced a masterclass in precision driving to clinch victory at the B&DCC Easter Egg Slalom 2026, edging out Chris Mathers by just 3.9 seconds after nine challenging tests.
Driving his Ford Puma, Parry accumulated a winning time of 672.5 seconds across the day’s runs, overcoming a mid-event challenge from Mathers who had shown impressive pace in his Mazda MX5 throughout the competition.
Louise Wren completed the podium places in another Ford Puma, finishing 15.2 seconds behind the winner but maintaining a comfortable gap to fourth-placed Clive Evans in his Mini R53.
The event, which featured 25 competitors across three classes, saw fortunes fluctuate dramatically as drivers tackled the technical course layout.
Parry’s victory was far from assured at the halfway stage. After five tests, he held just a 2.3-second advantage over Mathers, with both drivers setting remarkably consistent times. The decisive moment came during test seven, when Parry delivered an exceptional run to overturn a small deficit and establish a lead he would not relinquish.
In Class A for cars up to 1300cc, Ari Sibley claimed victory in his Mini with a time of 745.8 seconds, though he was pushed all the way by Andy Turner’s Renault Clio, which finished just 0.9 seconds behind after nine tests. The pair had exchanged the class lead multiple times, with Turner briefly moving ahead after test seven before Sibley’s strong finish secured the win.
Jane Higgs completed the Class A podium in her Peugeot 106, maintaining consistent pace throughout the day to finish 35.4 seconds behind the class winner.
Class B (1301-1600cc) was dominated by overall runner-up Chris Mathers, whose MX5 proved ideally suited to the slalom format. His winning time of 676.4 seconds put him 41.2 seconds clear of Clive Evans in the Mini R53, with Steve Candy’s Ford Escort GT a further 3.6 seconds back in third.
The largest class of the day was Class C for cars over 1601cc, where overall winner Shane Parry also took class honours. Louise Wren made it a Ford Puma one-two in the class, with Graham Hoare’s Renault Clio rounding out the top three.
The Locke family endured mixed fortunes in their shared Mazda MX5, with Stephen finishing 17th overall and Richard 21st. Similarly, the Turner family saw Andy (11th) significantly outpace Jack (24th) in their shared Renault Clio.
The event showcased the accessibility of grassroots motorsport, with a diverse range of cars competing from Mazda MX5s and Ford Pumas to the lone Volvo V40 of Mike Legg, who finished a creditable 13th overall.
