Rettie Reigns Supreme at 63CC April Autotest

Chris Rettie delivered a masterclass in precision driving to claim overall victory at the 63CC April Autotest, piloting his Mazda to a winning time of 220.2 seconds across the eight-test challenge.

Despite facing stiff competition from Jack Foster in his nimble Mini, Rettie maintained remarkable consistency throughout the event to secure the win. Foster, who actually finished with the second-fastest overall time of 207.0 seconds, competed in Class F rather than the main classifications.

The battle for supremacy in the AutoForward PCA class proved particularly intense, with Amie Wallace (Skoda Citigo) and Natalie Gibb (VW Polo) pushing Rettie hard throughout the day. Wallace briefly took the class lead after Test 3 with a time of 78.3 seconds to Rettie’s 78.7, but the Mazda driver regained control in subsequent tests.

Graham Rettie, sharing the Mazda with Chris, put in a solid performance to finish fourth in class, while Emma Findlay rounded out the top five in her VW Up.

In the RWD or 4X4 Special class, Martin Gillespie dominated proceedings in his Mazda MX5, establishing a commanding lead over fellow MX5 driver Ronnie Gillespie from the opening test. Martin’s consistent driving saw him finish with a time of 331.0 seconds, over 35 seconds ahead of Ronnie.

The FWD Special class witnessed an intriguing duel between James Morrison in his Mini and Alan Dalgarno in a Ford. Morrison held the advantage through most of the event, but by Test 6, the gap had closed dramatically with both drivers recording identical cumulative times of 284.2 seconds. Morrison ultimately prevailed, finishing just 3.1 seconds ahead of Dalgarno after all eight tests.

Gary Clark had a straightforward run in the Road Car class, being the sole competitor in his Mazda MX5. Meanwhile, Jack Foster put in one of the day’s most impressive performances in Class F, his Mini proving exceptionally quick throughout all tests.

The event showcased the diverse range of vehicles competitive in autotest competition, from the popular Mazda MX5s to smaller city cars like the Skoda Citigo and VW Up, all demonstrating remarkable agility around the challenging course.
