Williams Triumphs in Tight Meg Lane Autotest Battle

Andrew Williams emerged victorious at the GA 261 Meg Lane Autotest & PCA, edging out his namesake James Williams by just 9.5 seconds in a nail-biting contest that showcased precision driving at its finest.

The Nissan Micra proved to be the vehicle of choice for the top competitors, with Andrew completing the four tests in a combined time of 404.5 seconds to claim the overall win. James Williams, also in a Nissan Micra, had actually led after the third test but couldn’t maintain his advantage in the final run.

Duncan Wild rounded out the podium places in his VW Up, finishing with a respectable time of 430.6 seconds, while Josh Irwin took fourth place in his Mazda MX5, just ahead of Mike Phillips in an Eunos Roadster.

The battle throughout the field was intense, with the top seven drivers separated by less than 80 seconds after all tests were completed. Peter Watson claimed sixth place in his Daewoo, while Ray Simpson completed the top seven in another Nissan Micra.

In the PCA class, Max Reddish dominated proceedings in his Mazda MX5, finishing with a time of 758.1 seconds, comfortably ahead of Tia Stanley in a Ford Focus. Despite Stanley’s valiant efforts, Reddish maintained his advantage throughout all four tests to secure the class win.

The event highlighted the competitive nature of grassroots motorsport, with a diverse range of vehicles competing across both the Autotest and PCA classes. From the nimble Nissan Micras to the more powerful Mazda MX5s, drivers demonstrated remarkable skill navigating the technical course.

Colin Moreton, Katherine Watson, and Mel Morgan engaged in their own mid-field battle, with Moreton’s Mazda MX5 eventually prevailing to secure eighth place overall. At the tail end of the field, Neil Wilson in a Honda Civic completed the course in 629.4 seconds, highlighting the challenging nature of the event.
